Frequently asked questions
What is formwork?
It is the temporary mould, made of timber, metal or plastic, that shapes concrete while it sets and gains strength. Once the concrete can support itself the mould is removed, which is called striking.
How long must you wait before removing the formwork?
It depends on the element, the type of concrete and the temperature. The project or the site architect sets it, and striking too early can compromise the structure.
